Westbrook Done For the Year

Bad news on Jake Westbrook. He will have season-ending Tommy John surgery on his elbow. He could miss up to a full calender year which puts him out for more than just this season.

CastroTurf broke the news just a bit ago.

Obviously this hurts, and when he was slated to see Dr. Yocum, I kinda got the feeling he wouldn't be pitching any time soon. Jake just got an extension last year, so really he hasn't earned much of his deal so far.

The Indians can deal with one starter maybe two. It is now imperative they get Fausto Carmona back as soon as they can.

You also have to wonder what long term effects this has. Does Paul Byrd come back for another year now? What if Jeremy Sowers doesn't cut the mustard? Are the Indians going to now give in to C.C. a little more in hopes he signs?

It certainly makes things a little more interesting now. We don't have to worry about Aaron Laffey going anywhere for the rest of the year, that's for sure.
