Need to vent here...

Okay a few things that I really need to tell you guys reading.

Don't go thinking here about this offseason as if we need to spend money.

Don't do that, you will be sorely disappointed.

I've mentioned that I watch Bruce Drennan's show more than once here. I do it because A)There is really nothing on at 3:00 in the afternoon and B)Its usually background noise anyway.

I'm really disappointed in some of our fans out there calling. I do have an issue with what Drennan is saying, I think he is totally off-base, but I'm really upset at some of our fans opinions on Mark Shapiro.

Look people, he can't come out and say he's going to spend that 18 million he offered to CC Sabathia, that doesn't make sense.

HE SHOULDN'T TAKE THAT MENTALITY!

If he goes in saying "Okay alright I've got 18 million to spend, I'm going to do it"

Its like you go to a store and you say, Alright I have X amount of dollars to spend on a new couch, end table, and if I can find one that matches a new lamp.

You don't go saying I'm going to spend X amount.. I HAVE X amount to spend.

Just because they offered CC Sabathia 18 million, doesn't mean they have 18 million to spend on the free agents out there. That doesn't make sense. You were going to offer CC Sabathia 18 million. Okay THATS CC SABATHIA! I just don't understand why Drennan especially doesn't understand that. You can offer CC 18 million because hes CC.. You can't take the principle with the other free agents.

Next.. Brian Roberts and Kelly Shoppach.

Thankfully, someone called in today and told him Baltimore has Matt Wieters on the horizon and they have no use for Kelly Shoppach, that was really irking me.

Brian Roberts seems to be enamored by Bruce and he is making fans that watch his program enamored as well. I don't think thats the best idea, because THIS TEAM IS NOT MOVING PERALTA TO THIRD UNLESS THEY HAVE TO!

Brian Roberts is going to bring in a take a good haul and you can't do that unless you can't find a decent third baseman.

Jeeze. JEEZE JEEZE JEEZE!

Please, get off Brian Roberts for the love of god. Garrett Atkins, okay decent idea, I can go with that. Roberts no.. Any second baseman, NOT AS A PRIMARY OPTION. I'm going to put a few second baseman on the list, but that doesn't mean we should go after them. The primary need is a third baseman and that is what Shapiro is going to do. If he can't find one through trade (because the free agent market is very thin) then he will have to go and get a legit infielder at second base. I still believe it won't come to that though. I think we are going to get a few mid-range third baseman, make the compete and if things dont work out, we have Josh Barfield at second, worse case Carroll plays some third until we can get a third baseman, big deal.

Just a few things I had to get off my chest. It was really irking me and I didn't want anyone here to fall into the words Drennan is spewing. I respect his opinion and sometimes he's on, but mostly he's entertainment. I just don't think he is right about Shapiro and some of his questioning was rather weak. He isn't reading into Shapiro the correct way and I just think he is taking the wrong attitude towards that payroll question.

Haha! I have been fortunate enough to not be able to watch Drennan's nonsense much since starting my new job. I usually think he is ok, even over the top on things, but he obviously does not keep up on the game of baseball if he thinks that the Orioles would want Shoppach. Wieters will likely be an All-Star catcher his rookie season.

At third, I'm all for making a minor move to hold of just long enough until Hodges is ready. I am writing this in my bios for a book I'm working with.

Hodges, unless traded (which would be a poor decision in my mind) has to be your next option at 3B. If you move Peralta to third, that is a move made long-term, which blocks Hodges. You trade for a top 3B, you're doing the same (unless he is involved in the deal).

Leave the position alone, except for a minor tweaking. Obtaining a mid-level starting pitcher is of much greater importance in my estimation.

It went on for weeks until someone called in and told him about Wieters. Now he's changed his tune and isn't as keen on the idea because..... Baltimore won't trade Brian Roberts for.. Jeremy Sowers.. and a bag of balls.

I like Brian Roberts, he'd be a great addition to this club if we could say... sign him as a free agent or get him at a cheap price. But Baltimore will want a lot for what will be a one year rental.
