I just bought, three books last weekend and I'm sorely behind.

I still haven't even cracked the Josh Hamilton book. I received my Baseball Prospectus and Baseball America prospects book in the mail, those aren't really ones you read at once, more for reference and down-time for me.

But I need to read this one that I really don't want to read for my job. So... for now, everything will have to wait. I just bought Kenny Mayne's book and I'm looking forward to it. I also finally got God Save the Fan by Will Leitch and Maddox's book. If you don't know who Maddox is, let me formerly introduce you.

What can I say.

So my Thursday is going to basically be spent banging out this book I don't want to read, mainly because I'd rather read it now and get it over with in all one shot and I'm a fast reader.

But I know you care about the Indians much more than you care about my reading habits, and if you don't, then you need your head examined.

While many teams in Florida were facing WBC teams, the Indians and Cubs were in Arizona facing off. The Indians came out victorious, but that doesn't really matter, does it?

Let's start on offense, because everyone likes a good offense. Beau Mills was the hero in this game, going deeeeeeep.

Mills was 2-4 with a run scored and the two-run shot off Chad Gaudin. It's quite obvious Mills' bat is probably ahead of the levels he's playing at. But the switch to first base and his defense is probably making him move at the pace he is. The Indians are trying to avoid having a ton of guys who just are DH and DH only.

Victor Martinez and Michael Brantley both had RBI hits, LaPorta scoring on Brantley's hit and Martinez hitting the double to score a run. Both LaPorta and Brantley stole bases in that inning.

Wilson Valdez knocked in the go-ahead run in the 8th inning with a groundout. Good work buddah. Chris Gimenez walked twice and scored on the Valdez groundout.

Brad Snyder, former Indian an now Cub, started in right field and went 1-3 with two RBI.

And would you look at that... Starting in left-field, former Indian and once Cub and now Cub again, Jason Dubois. If you remember, Dubois was the return on Jody Gerut, the worst trade Mark Shapiro has ever made if you ask me. But I'm biased :)

Dubois hasn't had an at-bat in the majors since 2005 with the Indians. And unfortunately for us, we avoided seeing the third Indian reject, Milton Bradley. Damn...

Pitching wise it was a little less-crowded, with everyone but Juan Salas pitching two innings.

Carl Pavano started it off and it wasn't like his first start. He surrendered three runs off four hits and a walk. He'll be fine.

Fausto Carmona couldn't top his first outing either, with a walk and a hit, but he still pitched two scoreless. Anthony Castrovince C says his Marte Buffet visit has seemingly disappeared. Wedge said his control was a little off.

"There were a couple pitches where Fausto got a little out of control but he was able to get it back," said manager Eric Wedge.
I heard a Victor Martinez quote on the radio yesterday and you can probably credit him in "getting it back." Vic is the man that can control Fausto and both of them and Wedge know that.

Scott Lewis who is in the final rotation spot battle, struck out two, but gave up a run off four hits and a walk.

Jensen Lewis picked up the win with two solid innings, striking out two and giving up just one hit. His spring ERA remains at 0.00. AC says his velocity is right on track. I wouldn't worry about it either way.

And of course Juan Salas was perfect in his 9th inning picking up the save. Wedge described him as having "a lot of action at the plate" which means his ball moooooooves.

Complete list of quotes from AC, here.

The other tidbit is the Grady Sizemore one. Grady will actually not play on Friday like original though. Wedge instead will have him running and catching fly balls and possibly play on Saturday.

I say, the more days off, the better. Get him not just close to 100%, but 100%. Even though as Sizemore says, he could play if he had to.

"Anytime you deal with an injury it's tough," said Sizemore. "If this was during the year, it wouldn't be a problem. We wouldn't be talking about it.

"I'd be in there and you guys wouldn't know the difference. Now we have time to let it rest and get my legs back under me."

Even though it's spring, I'm sure Sizemore is chomping at the bit to get out there. That's just the kind of guy he is.

One more update on Shin-Soo Choo...
"At this point the Indians' wishes are to get him back here so we can examine him," said GM Mark Shapiro. "Just because we're not comfortable with him being somewhere else and experiencing an injury. We're going to keep an open mind until we get full information."
And really, as big of a deal it seems for the Korea team to have him there, the manager for the team, In-suk Kim, said the decision is with the Indians.
"I have to respect the decision of the Indians," South Korean manager In-Suk Kim told the Associated Press in Tokyo. "We may use him just as a designated hitter and not in the outfield, but ultimately the decision lies with his MLB team."
As noted yesterday though, the Indians would have to reject and go through other means to get him removed. So it isn't as simple as saying "We want you to come back," and he comes back.

The CPD takes us back in time with Johnny Goryl and a video of the Indians' player development coach.

Minor League pitchers report today, hitters report Saturday. Even though a lot of the major minor leaguers are already there, some in the big-league camps. The official dates are today and Saturday. Tony Lastoria has a full minor league game schedule up if you are interested.

Columbus, Akron, Kinston, and Lake County start games on the 18th of March. As you can see, the teams face each organization on a day, two games have been paired up in Goodyear and the other two on the road.

[BOXSCORE]
