WALK IT OFF BUDDY!!!
I did tons of walking today. It was fun.
But enough about me, let's talk about the Indians because that's all I want to do.
Chris Gimenez was hero today. In more than ways than one we find out.
But Gimenez hit the three-run walk off shot to seal a win for the Tribe over the Mariners. Gimenez has been impressive this spring and if he's not the first guy they call up from Columbus, I don't know anyone else besides Trevor Crowe that is. Not just the third catcher, but if they need someone who can play third or even an outfield spot, Gimenez has to be that guy.
Tony Graffanino had the other run knocked in off.. wait for it... Chris Jakubauskas... YES!
Travis Hafner was 0-3 with a walk and Jhonny Peralta was 2-3.... Ben Francisco was 1-3.
Offensively, it was Gimenez, that was it.
Pitching.. Jeremy Sowers has made it interesting.
This rotation battle seemingly has three horses in it now. Aaron Laffey, Scott Lewis, and Jeremy Sowers, who was good today.
Three hits, one walk, two strikeouts in four innings of work.
Sowers credits Sal Fasano for a lot of his improvements and if he just keeps this up, things being tough on Eric Wedge is better than reluctance.
"Everything was going in the right direction," Sowers said. "[Former backup catcher] Sal Fasano opened me up to new possibilities, as far as how to approach hitters and become a little less predictable."The rest of the staff was stellar, STELLAR I tell you.
Rafael Perez wasn't as sharp as he was in the WBC, giving up two hits, but he got the job done. Vinnie Chulk meanwhile put forth a huge effort to establish his chances for that bullpen spot(or those bullpen spots). Two innings, no hits, no walks, perfection.
Greg Aquino and Jack Cassel pitched scoreless frames.
The Indians also turned four double plays, as did Seattle, and as Castrovince said not sure if that's a record for Cactus League. But who cares?
On another Gimenez note, AC said he signed autographs till people left. So if your down in Arizona for ST and you are kind of cranky because of not getting stuff signed by guys like Victor and Grady, seek out guys like Gimenez. These guys love it. Not saying Vic and Grady and guys like them aren't nice, everyone is awesome. But the youngsters are always willing and they are our future, so you aren't getting it from scrub.
Tomorrow... Cliff Lee, pitches. Also Masa Kobayashi tries to save his job as well. That's going to be fun.
Miller update tomorrow I believe.. Nothing much today surprisingly, which is kind of cool as far as me. But hey now..
