Two in a row... going for two in a row against the same team for the first time all year.
An early guaranteed split and an inside track at winning the series 3-1...
All gone as quick as the seven run lead.
Pathetic.
I fell asleep at some point.. Then I awoke to the game still being on, only I had already seen all this. So I was like what the hell is going on here.
Then I realized that it was like 7 in the morning.
So I avoided seeing the score and watched the rest of the game.
What a kick in the pants.
I mean what the hell do we have to do to not be disappointed by this team?
What is WRONG with this ridiculous bullpen. Giving us some sliver of hope these past few games and then pulling a stunt like this one?
And.. Really the starters aren't excluded. Anthony Reyes needs to do better than what he did if you get a seven run lead spotted to you. Unacceptable to give up runs in that fashion and not go at least six or seven full innings.
UGHHH..
I don't even want to think about this anymore.. But really Wedge is going to lose his job because his pitching staff is incompetent.
"We've got to pitch," Wedge said. "We've got to command the baseball. A 9-0 lead [Thursday] becomes 9-6, and tonight it's 7-0, and we lose the ballgame.
"At some point these guys have got to look in the mirror. It's not their stuff. Their stuff is fine. You've got to concentrate. You can't miss by a foot and a half. I'm sitting here watching on TV and seeing what you're seeing. It's ridiculous. There's no other word for it. This is the big leagues. We've got to be better than that."
I'm not sure what more you can ask for from this guy... Is he supposed to do something like wave a magic wand and make it all go away?
There are little things here and there that I can bitch and moan about with Wedge.. But a seven run lead? Really? Anthony Reyes shouldn't be doing what he's doing with a seven run lead. SOMEONE... SOMEONE.. Lewis, Sipp, Herges, Betancourt, Vizcaino.. I mean seriously, they all had a hand in losing last night. It's silly. Anyone he goes to is failure.
All Wedge can do is to continue to call out the pitchers, because nothing else is working.
"I respect the heck out of these position players," Wedge said. "It's not how many times you get kicked in the face, it's how many times you get up. And they will. But these [pitchers] have to start holding up their end of the bargain, too."And all the Indian position players, DeRosa and Martinez, won't say it, but you can tell they are frustrated with the pitching. They won't blame anyone, but they are giving you the same old same old when you don't want to blame someone, but you really do.
Ugh, let's get to a few other things that have nothing to do with this frustration that is the pitching.
Grady Sizemore now has over-taken something that he'll hold onto for a long time to come.
Grizzle's home run in the first inning to lead off the game last night set him ahead of Kenny Lofton for the most all time in Indians' history with 19. And of course, that wasn't the main story with hin.
"I guess it's exciting," Sizemore said. "Obviously this wasn't the way we wanted to end the game, so that's all I'm thinking about now. It's not a stat you focus too much on, but it's cool to have. Hopefully I can continue to have that success and set the bar high."Congrats to Grady and get more while you can because everyone knows that sooner or later, you won't be able to build on that lead. It took Kenny a long time to build that, Grady has done it in a few years.
The second thing is the deal with Victor Martinez and Tampa pitcher J.P. Howell.
Howell was definitely throwing at his head.. Wedge believed it, even if it was a mistake, Howell threw at his head and Howell's comment's don't inspire anything else."Whoever throws at my head," he said, "I'm going to go after them."
"I don't like that, throwing at my head," Martinez said. "If you want to hit somebody, [throw at] a different spot. But don't throw at the head."
"I was just pitching, man, playing ball," he said. "I mean, whatever. I threw a pitch in. Whatever. Where the ball was, if his face was in that area, you make up your own mind what you think. I just threw a pitch barely in, a little up. And whatever. He didn't like it. I don't know what that is."Whatever... indeed. Think you said it enough?
Yep..
And as for Wedge getting thrown out on that bogus call at home plate..
"He was safe," Wedge said. "That's what I saw. Greg's a good umpire, but I felt he was in a bad position. I had no intention of getting thrown out, but it got a little heated. I got upset, he got upset and there it was."It wasn't bad position.. It was horrible position. DeRosa got his foot in under Dioner Navarro before he could apply the tag, clear as day from that position. The ump was in a awful spot to get that call right.
Oh and before I go, because I'm just tired of typing at this point.
Jhonny Peralta, brace yourself, because I'm about to chew you out.
SHUT UP AND PLAY THIRD BASE!
Seriously.. Take one for the team you jerk. Victor Martinez, Kelly Shoppach, Ryan Garko, and Josh Barfield have all handled their position changes/playing time cuts better than you have.
ACT LIKE A PROFESSIONAL! This is a team game, act like you are a part of it and not some self-absorbed jerk that wants to play shortstop, despite the fact that it isn't the best for this team.
You played third base beautifully the past few games. The defense is much more better with Cabrera at short and you at third, so deal with it. Stop bitching about wanting to play short, or saying it's your best position, because it isn't.
This team doesn't need you doing this crap. Ryan Garko is probably the one guy who deserves to be pissed and he's acting better than everyone.
Oh and David Huff is starting Sunday.. He better be killing Masa Kobayashi off or something is going down.
