Morning Update: This Romans Thing Has Gone Far Enough

Posted by Nino Monday, May 04, 2009, under ,,, | No comments

So here it is.. Sunday Night.. I'm getting this out of the way because I have a Monday routine and it's actually being THROWN INTO A WRENCH BECAUSE OF FINALS.

So I've calculated this out for my humanities test, and I've actually spent more time calculating this than studying for the actual final.. But in order to get a B on my Humanities test, I need to accumulate 270 points.. Yes the final is 300 points.. It's a 1000 point course, insane.. But anyway that's a real daunting task.. You ask, what is it that you have right now that you need so many points just to get a B?

I have a 76 percent...

Whatever.. In order to guarantee myself a C.. 180 Points.. Yeah that seems pretty simple.. I want that B though..

But I have absolutely NO CLUE what I'm doing.. This is comprehensive.. I hate that.. Especially with something as crazy as Humanities.. What is Humanities? I don't know... The biggest lesson I got out of it was that there was a Roman Named Hasdrubal, which I told you about.. And I only learned it because I thought his name was Asdrubal.

I remember that he is Roman and that he was headless. I also know somethi.. oooh Carl Crawford stole six bases.

This is how easily I get distracted.. Throw in a couple of episodes of Spongebob (not today, but roll with me here), and before I know it, it's 11:15 at night and I've got a few notes, but don't feel any more confident in getting that 270 that I need than I did a few hours ago when I started.

And now I've just wasted a good five minutes on Hasdrubal, Humanities, Spongebob, Carl Crawford, and for what?

To drown my sorrows of this godforsaken team?

They didn't spell check godforsaken, which I was sure wasn't all one word. At least this was a productive linguistic post.

"I don't really remember if we've seen him as good as he was today," Victor Martinez said. "He was able to throw his offspeed pitches for strikes, and that made his fastball better. When you can throw a curveball like that and you have a 95-97 mph fastball, you've got to go for one or the other."
Yeah... I'm not even going to talk about the offense as a whole, they did what they could do. I'm just searching for Wedge quotes on Shoppach... And So far...

All I can find is someone suggesting they pinch-hit LaPorta? WHAT? Hoynes you behind this?

"If you're going to pinch-hit [a guy] right there," Wedge said, "you're not going to start him in the first place."

"Both stood up well," Wedge said. "They worked through their at-bats. Obviously, [Verlander] was on his game today."

Both - Valbuena and LaPorta.. I'd have to agree.. maybe that was a shot at Kelly, I would hope so.

I can't find anything on Shoppach. So I guess I'll surrender and just talk about how impressive LaPorta looked up there against someone who was on his A-Game.. The first at-bat, he kind of looked over-matched, but as Wedge said, it was impressive to see him go out there and probably have two of the three or four good at-bats. Vic had one I remember where he took Verlander deep into the count. LaPorta did it twice. LaPorta (he needs a freakin' nickname, I had Caps lock L, a, Caps Lock P, orta, it's too much) certainly did get introduced to big league pitching though.
"That 3-2 breaking ball is just one of those things," said LaPorta. "Like Vic [Martinez] said, 'You have to pick one or another between his breaking ball and fastball.' I looked up at the scoreboard one time and one pitch was 100 mph ... gosh."
I also liked how he stepped off the plate a few times when Verlander was trying to screw with him. He may have looked like a rookie in his first at-bat, but his next two, even with a strikeout, looked like a seasoned vet. He really does pick up quick. LaPorta's parents and family were behind home plate taking pictures of him when he stepped in the box for his first at-bat.

Anyway, no real big bullpen blunders in this one, mainly because they didn't have a chance... But Wedge says that if things keep going like this, and even if they don't, but for the time being, Sipp and Perez are going to start getting some right-handed hitters to face, because the other guys are simply not getting it done.
"It's about executing pitches," said Wedge. "We have to make sure we make pitches at key points in the game. Pull-side home runs are always red flags. You have to stay away from that, especially late in ball games."
I really feel for Wedge at these points.. What else can the guy do? He sounds sort of like.. Okay this didn't work, so I guess I'll try this.... That didn't work? Oh well I guess we'll do this..

"We've got to keep working to find people to step up in those seventh and eighth innings," Wedge said.

"That's where we are right now," Wedge said.

Remember Asdrubal Cabrera's three run-double? Yeah well erase it from your memories just as it has been erased from the record books. A scoring official or whatever has changed it to an error.. Which I guess makes sense...... For Miner it's good, for Cabrera though, you want the RBI.

The Indians might challenge it though, so fear not.

Remember when Vic threw his helmet down after hitting that deep fly ball that got ran down by Granderson? I thought, oh boy, that almost hit the umpire.. Well Vic apologized for it.

This was by far, one of Castrovince's most entertaining Excruciating Minutia's... ever.. he's getting a bit dreary as well. In more ways than one.
